Corporate Transformation Plan

Article Date: 07-10-2007

At Merc, the month of October is synonymous with the bi-annual results review. For the sixth consecutiveles_nuttall.jpg year, our growth targets have been met and thanks to our 25 new customers, Merc’s turnover should grow by another 80% by 2009.

Sustaining this level of growth has not been an easy thing to achieve, but Merc’s managing team is currently adapting its Lean Manufacturing strategy to ensure the continuity of this growth.

Merc’s staff have therefore committed themselves to developing a leadership style that will take the company through a Corporate Transformation Plan to World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Status. Merc is also exploring the Kanban manufacturing process which was developed by Toyota in the 1950s.

The aim of these processes is to cut costs and eliminate the waste in the factory enabling Merc to improve its lead times and productivity. By undertaking better analysis of internal processes and results, Merc can determine which areas of the company need improvement, and act accordingly.

Our shopfloor layout has also been revamped creating better working conditions and a re-organised stores system. We also welcomed Glen McNamara to our team this month who is now learning the ropes of the new stores system with a view to managing the area.

Any customers who would like to see the improvements we have made would be more than welcome!
